LA-ICP-MS can be used for multielement analysis of solid samples. The sample is evaporated with a laser and formed microparticles are transported into the ICP-flame with the carrier gas. In the plasma the elements are atomized and ionized, after which the y are detected with a mass spectrometer. A cyro-cell allows also analysis of soft tissue and samples with high liquid contents.

LA-ICP-MS laitteella voidaan kiinteästä näytteestä analysoida monta alkuainetta samanaikaisesti. Kiinteä näyte höyrystetään laser-säteen avulla ja muodostuneet mikropartikkelit kulkeutuvat  kantajakaasun mukana ICP-liekkiin, jossa ne atomisoituvat ja ionisoituvat. Ionisoituneet alkuaineet  detektoidaan massaspektrometrillä. Laserin yhteydessä oleva kylmäkammio mahdollistaa myös nestettä sisältävien näytteiden analyysin, sillä ne voidaan ensin jäädyttää kiinteään muotoon. 

 

Geological samples, cartilage, soft tissue,  glass, catalysts... One can analyze almost anything that can be made in solid state with help of cyro-cell (lowering the temperature). In our laboratory LA-ICP-MS is mainly used for customer service.

  • Spot Selection - Aperture Imaged Mode: 13 true aperture imaged, software controlled spots: 4micro m to 10 micro m 
  • Spot Selection - Focus Beam Mode : Software controlled monitorised beam expander 2 micro m to 300 micro m 
  • Beam Conditioning: Flat Beam Profile at fundamental output
  • X-Y stages: 52mm x 52 mm travel; 1 micro m resolution 
  • Conoca Colour Video Microscope and Camera: 2 micro m feature resolution with colour CCD camera. Sample is in focus in for all laser spot sizes.
