Nanoindentation with atomic force microscope

We have used atomic force microscope based nanoindentation mainly for biological materials, especially bone.  A custom made LabVIEW software has been developed for the system calibration and analyses. Two reference materials are used in the calibration process in order to take into account the cantilever spring constant and tip shape. The system can not be used for very stiff materials (maximum Young's modulus < 50 GPa).

Stand alone type nanoindentation  system (such as Hysitron) will be (hopefully) available during the year 2009.
